I've actually talked to thesixthroc about both our mods. He's using actual particles/projectiles which is a neat way to do it, but he's got a whole system of dealing with those particles and made it a big part of the mod. I wanted something using more simple "built-in" functionality of Factorio, so I chose a couple variations on the spoil mechanic. There are some limitations I ran into. Without using actual projectiles, it's difficult to use walls to "block" or "shield" the damage, which was my original plan. I may alter it in the future, but my current method is incredibly low on UPS load, which was another big design goal for me. I appreciate any suggestions you run across, thanks!
