On further thought, i didn't actually check if vanilla tower shows it's contents. I'll do it later.

Hi,

This is intended by game engine.

The content on hover is a specialty of the CraftingMachine prototype. If it has a recipe it shows this info on hover.
For agricultural towers, hover will show coverage range and sector status.
