i Melt plastic bars

(updated 7 days ago)

first of all I have to say that I like this mod a lot, and very thankful that you made it , I was looking for this mod for a long time.
so I have a question/suggestion: is it possible to make a melting plastic bars into molten plastic recipe, to make it easier to transport large quantity of plastic via pipes, instead of belts that have a throughput limitation? Id'e love to use it in my megabases.
btw, I know that I can make molten plastic with coal petroleum & calcite. but I'm playing a lot of moded planets that only have a plastic bar recipe.

Hello there,

thank you for your kind words and this suggestion!
I am not planning to add a recipe to melt down plastic bars, since I want to keep the system as similar to molten ore as possible to keep it intuitive. It would also enable some problematic looping around and productivity bonus exploits.

I do, however, have a lot of compat patches with planet mods planned. If you tell me where you'd want a molten plastic recipe I'll see if I can add one. I've talked to the devs of both Lignumis and Arig and have molten plastic recipes for those coming in the next couple days.

If there turn out to be a lot of alternative plastic bar recipes, I'll consider making a dynamic system instead.

tnx for the quick response.
I believe that the Dynamic recipe system would probably be better, sense there is a lot of moded planets, and I wouldn't want to ask you to make a specific recipe for every one of them.
if you do decide that the Dynamic system isn't the best way to do it, I'll take the offer to ask for the specific planets recipes.

After talking to some fellow devs, I've decided against the dynamic system, mostly because
-Making the compat patches is pretty fun
-I find it important to talk to the dev and make sure my recipe doesn't disturb the intended playstyle (Arig, for example is cargo locked, the molten plastic recipe can only be used after beating the planet, which is intended)
-Since I multiply the recipe ingredients by an arbitrary number to get a sensible calcite/plastic ratio it's a little more involved.

Current and coming compat patches for planets include:
-Pelagos
-Lignumis
-Muluna
-Maraxsis
-Arig
-Corrundum

If I've forgotten any, please let me know!

I'm playing some of the planets you mentioned, and also the planets: Paracelsin, Secretas&Frozeta, Cerys, Moshine, tenebris. and I'll probably add more.
if you could add a specific recipe for those too it would be awesome. no pressure though.
and thanks again for you're great work and dedication.

I've added those with custom plastic recipes to my todo list, those being Castra, Igrys, Paracelsin and Cubium.
Moshine and Tenebris make plastic bars using the vanilla recipe so you can use the regular molten plastic recipe there.

Frozeta is one of my favourite planets but sadly I'm unsure how to implement molten plastic there or on other scrap planets, I'll ask AnotherZach about it but can't promise anything.

Cerys is not only scrap based but also more of a puzzle than a planet. Having known Thesixthroc for almost a year, I've seen him create and balance a carefully curated playthrough that I'd hate to disrupt with a custom recipe. Seeing as you don't have access to molten metals while being cargo locked there I think it makes sense for you to not have access to molten plastic either.
