So each craft produces 4 woods: 1 goes back to seed, about 2 converts to charcoal in order to recycle the biosludge, leaving around 1 wood as product. That's really tough!
Bit of a late reply, but the mod was originally balanced around having Early Agriculture enabled, which buffs the wood yield from trees to 10. There is now a setting to apply this buff even when Early Agriculture is not installed :)
