factorio 2.0 added the ability for requester chests and buffer chests to trash unrequested, which puts unwanted items in their trash slots. merged buffer chests (requester untested) have 0 trash slots, meaning they cannot trash stuff (but the trash unrequested button remains (uselessly)).
